Do NOT sign the document.The Notary must physically witness you signing it. If signed beforehand, you may need to sign again.
Fill out all other information.Complete all blank spaces on the document before arriving, except for the signature field.
Know your notary type.Ensure you know whether you need an Acknowledgment or a Jurat (the Notary cannot legally choose for you).
What to Bring
The complete document.Bring the entire document, not just the signature page.
Valid Photo ID.Bring an unexpired, government-issued photo ID (Driver's License, State ID, or U.S. Passport) for every signer.
All required signers.Everyone who needs to sign must be present with their own valid ID.
Required witnesses (if applicable).If your document requires witnesses in addition to the Notary, you must bring them with you (they also need valid IDs).
